Kawagoe City is situated in the south of the Kanto Region, in southwestern Saitama Prefecture, and has a population of approx. 350,000.
This city flourished as the castle town of the Kawagoe Domain during the Edo Period, and is also known as 'Koedo' ('Little Edo'). Having escaped destruction during the war, a large number of historical buildings, temples and shrines are preserved here, and the city's major sightseeing spots attract around 6.5 million visitors each year.
